Interview with Natasha Sehgal Dublish
What motivated you to pursue fashion designing?
I was always motivated internally to pursue this from my heart. Even as a kid I remember designing my own clothes and insisting that I would wear them I am glad I am finally pursuing my dream.
When and how was Orchids Sutraa established? Tell us your journey.
Orchids Sutraa is my prêt line established two years back. Sustainable, fun, quirky, affordable and breathable form the main tenants of Orchids Sutraa. We work with Bagru artisans, block prints on Organic fabrics such as Milk bamboo to give a breathable wearable feel to the wearer. After an encouraging response, the brand has grown into – Accessories, ladies wear and kids wear…
Tell us about yourself a little, which is co-related to Orchids Sutraa Your Brand.
My passion for fashion translates into Orchids sutra. I love feminine quirky twists to my garments that exist in each creation of mine. I also feel very strongly about giving a good work environment to my labourers for which I have everything in house with very good facilities for them. We tie up only with small factories so as to control the quality and to maintain sustainable standards of our production.
What is USP of your designs? How they differ from others?
Quirky block prints that look like screen prints but in actuality are done by hand block printing techniques for kids wear, ladies and accessories form the signature style of my brand .
How you choose fabric and designs? Do you have a team to assist you?
I select the fabrics myself from my vendors and create designs from my inspirations. I have a competent design team who then tweaks them to make them more commercially viable.
How frequently do you update your collection?
We follow the seasons – Spring / Summer & Fall / Winter.
Do you offer custom made designs for special clients? If yes, how you make sure you give the best fit?

It has been a very fulfilling journey since I started. I have been very lucky in that aspect. My brand being only two years old is already getting accolades from major retailers and there’s lots more coming up . I am very excited about a creative and an expanding future!
What are the future plans? Where you want to take your brand in next 5-7 years?
I believe “fashion knows no boundaries “. I definitely plan to launch my label outside India to uplift our indigenous art forms at an international level.

Pursue your passion to the fullest. It may be tough journey but totally worth it.
Indian fashion industry has come a long way. The silhouettes cuts and designs available today are very contemporary sharp and sleek. Our industry is also expanding beyond the bridal market into prêt line and that is a big boost for Indian fashion industry.
